STCW95 refers to the 1995 amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). It was introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a standard required for personnel on any type of ship & came into force on 1 Feb 1997 however; there was a 5 year transitional period until 1 Feb 2002 to allow for a phased-in implementation of the provisions. After Feb 2002, all seafarers are required to meet STCW-95 standards.
